I'm finally going to get to the strawberry garden today. It needs a little weeding and then I'll get it strawed and nestled warmly into bed for the cold weather coming. I'm so anxious about the weather. My figs are still not ripe and I'm about to worry a path to the tree!! I still have some eggplant growing and ripening and the green peppers are slowly turning red, but things are indeed slowing down for all the plants. Meanwhile, Hubby and I are ramping up. The chicken coop needs cleaned out, the barn needs cleaned up, and I could go on and on. Fall is probably the most comfortable time of the year for us to work so complaints around here are few and far between. Work is work but when you're working in this kind of weather it's nearly a joy!
------------------------------------
The strawberry bed is finished and my goodness, it was much weedier than it actually looked. I spent almost 2 hours pulling weeds, but it's accomplished and marked off my list of things to do. Hubby took care of the barn. We're getting there!!
Next up is the front flower bed. Hubby and I have decided we're completely redoing it . . . completely. We're tearing everything out, including the pink fairy roses on both sides of the steps, except we're leaving my Sorbet Peony. Of course, I will keep a good many of the flowers from the bed, but they will go back to the herb garden area. I'll dig all the echinacea up and dry the roots for tea but it's all going. Next Spring I have two yellow peonies ordered and they will go in the front right portion. I haven't made up my mind yet what else will go in but likely, some nice compact kitchen herbs that will keep neatly, like lavender, rosemary, thyme, oregano and sage. That's actually what I wanted when I first moved here. If I don't go the herb route I will plant tulips and daffodils for Spring color and mums and marigolds for Fall. I just haven't made up my mind. If any of you have suggestions I'd appreciate them. Here's an old pic from my Pictures page of the flower garden leading to the kitchen door. Check it out and tell me what you would do with the garden. I could definitely use the input. I'm not very good at this sort of thing.
