See the whole bud? Take a hard straw and push from the bottom up through the top and the seed pod (see the 2 yellowish/green pods) should push right out. You can also just peel it off with your fingers. The maroon/burgundy part is what you use for tea or in making cranberry-like sauce or jellies. (Please note: You can chop the pods up for tea as well. Very mucilaginous, good for lowering cholesterol and intestinal flora.)
