I’m glad I got out yesterday evening. I walked and walked and walked. Seems as though I just couldn’t stop. The problem was - I was dreaming. My mind gets to rolling and I walk and think and dream. I picked up a few hickory nuts, wondered if perhaps I should not clean up some walnuts in the next week or so, walked all around the perimeter of our field, stopped and talked to the horses and scratched their heads, found an empty oriole nest and a big old oak tree I didn’t even know was on the place. It was an amazing walk! The orioles were nesting just out of our sight; and trust me, it was an oriole nest!! There's no mistaking those! The oak tree was over by the dog kennel and I didn’t even realize I had acorns. Here I had been moaning about wanting to go into the woods next door and they’re right in my back yard. Amazing what you see, when you’re really looking!!
I've been making a list of projects that seems to be growing for 2014. Next Fall I’m going to make Sumac Lemonade, acorn flour and cattail pollen pancakes. I’m trying to keep my list within the range of possibility but even at that - it’s going to be quite an adventuresome year. Going on these walks just makes matters worse too. Everything I see seems to remind me of something else I should add to the list!! Yikes!!!
When the herb club went to the Lasata Winery in Illinois for our meeting I was scoping out the grapevines in their fields. I so want to grow decent grapes, at least enough for juice and jellies. I noticed while I was out walking last night that mine are not cut back nearly as hard as theirs so I’m going to work on that this coming Spring as well. I picked some seed from my balloon flower last night too. I have 1 plant and it is so pretty but I would like a few more so I've decided to try my hand at growing my own plants. Hey, I grow my own tomatoes, eggplant and peppers! Why not try this too? I’m also going to try my hand at cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli this next year.
Ya see? This is what happens when I go walking - I dream! My dreams may be a sight different than yours but dreaming keeps me alive. I figure when I quit dreaming I’m about to quit living!!
Here, I was outside taking a few pics and Power was getting really nosey. I don't think either of the horses are too proud of the coop. When we are inside they come up beside it and knicker. I don't think they like the coop between us and them!!
Scroll down on my Pictures Page for more pics of the coop. It's almost finished!!!
