Back to the Norm

Today it's back to the norm.  Wednesday is bread baking day and laundry day.  Since I start back to work tomorrow, for the first time in almost 2 weeks, it's going to be rough going so I've decided to get my grocery shopping done today as well, instead of tomorrow evening.  I figure by the time I walk out of my office tomorrow afternoon I'll be dragging!

I've got quite a bit of food in the house but it's things like toilet paper, tissues, eggs, and milk.  I'm sure you know the drill.  I sat down last night and made out a list of healthy meals.  I won't necessarily follow this list to the "T" but it gets me thinking in the right direction.  I'm trying to veer away from so much bread, butter, cheeses, etc. without strangling us with little or no flavor.  Thank goodness for all of my herbs and herb blends.  I'd be totally lost without them.  I've got about 50 or 60 quart of green beans left in my stash from canning this past season along with loads of frozen corn, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, eggplant, zucchini and peppers.  I've got carrots, tomatoes and tomato sauces and purees, pickles, beets and fruits of course.  I have a few packages of lima beans and I've still got white potatoes, sweet potatoes and butternut squash in storage.  I don't think we'll starve but even with all that, putting it together and making it interesting is a real chore!  For the time being, I probably had better take advantage of the fact that it's "soup season" and get going on several different soups.  My husband wants chili which isn't exactly light in calories but I can lighten it up with ground venison or just less meat, period!!!  Vegetable soup is my choice.  I can't make it meatless if I want to stay married but I can be very judicious in my quantities.  Chicken Soup or Beef and Barley would be very, very good as well.  Stew doesn't sound half bad either.  See what I mean about the whole thinking-it-through process?  It can get sort of ridiculous!!

Today has been crazy alright!!  I did go grocery shopping and had to go to three stores just to get all that I wanted.  I had this big idea after doing a lot of research that I was going to make my own homemade clothes soap powder.   Ya see, the bad part about me is the fact that I have a tendency to not be able to do just one little thing - I always have to go overboard and of course, today was no exception.  I brought home enough ingredients to make a 5 gallon bucket full of soap powers, AND I also made automatic dish soap AND homemade softener.  Goodness!!!  I think I really did overdo it but we're going to be one clean bunch of cookies!!!  Yep, I'm definitely back to the norm!!!

My name is Nina.  Southern Indiana has been my home since 1952.  I've been a legal secretary most of my adult life and for my leisure time I enjoy everything connected to the world of herbs and cooking is almost like a "fever".  I am also quite opinionated but try not to push my opinions on others.  My family is grown and I'm left with a wonderful hubby sharing life with me.  I'd guess you'd say my passion is living that life to the fullest.
