I had to make a trip to the farm market to pick up apples. I got there and my friend showed me which apples would be best for pies and which would be better for applesauce. I chose to pick up 2 pecks (1/2 bushel) of Gravenstine apples, which are a good cooking apple. I think they will be perfect for apple pie filling and whatever I have left will cook up well for apple butter. Next week I'll go back and get the apples she prefers for applesauce and work them up; but for now, this will do. Hubby goes to work tomorrow and I will be able to work up the apples without any interruptions.
Last night I put cayenne peppers in my dehydrator and put the dehydrator out in the garage. Whew!! You certainly do not want to dehydrate hot peppers in your house. I've done that and believe me, you only do it once!! I generally dry my cayenne peppers the old fashioned way. I take a needle and thread it with fishing line and hang the cayenne peppers but I'm completely out of cayenne right now and need it pronto. The next batch I will do the old fashioned way and it can hang in the basement and serve as a decorative piece as well, but for now - I need some cayenne!! Hubby likes to shake a little red pepper on his pizza and I need it for my chili powder. Once I have enough dehydrated for immediate use I'll hang all the rest.
Hubby and I mowed the lawn today and are glad to have that accomplished.
I plan on meeting my girlfriend for coffee this evening. I think a little "girl time" is in order.
So far that's all that has happened of any significance. This has been a much slower day! Probably a good thing. You gotta slow down every once in a while!! What is that old saying? Oh yes, "Stop and smell the roses."
