I didn't get all my roses trimmed up yesterday so I'm heading out to try and finish up that job before hubby gets home. Then I'm going to be mowing lawn. Also, hopefully, I'll have some time to cut more nettles. They are growing fast and furious and I want to get as many of those powerhouse nutrients as I possibly can!!

I came in at 11:30 to rest and get some lunch ready for hubby when he gets home from work. I got all my roses cut back in the herb garden area and cut back my Joseph's Coat roses planted at the ends of the clothesline. I didn't lose as many roses as I thought though I had to cut back pretty deep. The cold had really taken its toll. The two I think I did lose were the Joseph's Coat climbing roses - but - they are "own-root" roses so there is still a possibility they will come up from the root. I try and buy own-root roses simply because I'm not very good with roses and own-root are just that. They grow from their own roots. They are not grafted and have, generally, a much better chance of surviving ME!!!
Speaking of lunch. When hubby and I were young we bought pork n beans and ate them straight from the can. Hubby dubbed them "cowboy beans", especially since our little boys would eat anything with cowboy related to it. Cowboy Beans were really cheap and we ate them every way known to mankind. One of the ways we loved them were prepared as bean and cheese sandwiches. We took bread and put a little butter on one piece, mustard on the other, then we spread beans on one piece and a slice of store-bought cheese on the other and slapped that baby together. We put it in the oven and in about 5 minutes it became wonderful eating!! Sometimes if we had leftover hotdogs or balogna we added that too. Today, and it's probably been 20 years since we've had them, hubby and I are having bean and cheese sandwiches for lunch!! Ah, necessity is the mother of invention (a quote by Plato).
