Just about every post I read on the internet here lately is full of dreamers, most of them dreaming of warm, sunny days and gardens full of potential produce. My Mother used to say to me, "You're such a dreamer!" Trust me, that was not in a good context when she said it!! Ha!! Yes, a dreamer I am and I will continue to dream until I can no longer close my eyes and see something more beautiful than today, more lovely, more exciting, more full of promise, more glorious and more amazing. Dreamers see potential and possibilities, they see peace in the midst of turmoil, joy during the rampages of disease and pain. Someday this dreamer will see the greatest dreamer of all - - God.
Today I'm tincturing. I've been trying to decide exactly how I'm going to approach my tincturing. The tincturing part is not my greatest concern - it's the purpose and usage of the tincture that concerns me. How do I label or note how to use the tincture that will be most useful for me personally. I'm getting at the age where I have a tendency to forget a little more than I'd like to admit and I want to make sure that I have everything written down and easily accessible. I'm still mulling over how to do that exactly. Anyway, today I'll be tincturing and sometime this week I'll probably be making some pills too and perhaps some medicinal honey syrups. We'll see. At this point, one step at a time.
Hooray, the heirloom pimiento seed (Red Cheese Pepper) came in the mail today along with spaghetti squash seed, scarlet runner beans and several others from Mary's Heirloom Seeds. Much to my surprise she also sent a packet of Bachelor Buttons and who doesn't love Bachelor Buttons!! Another name for Bachelor Buttons is the common name cornflower and they are a wonderful herb. Medicinally, they are considered diuretic, tonic, anti-inflammatory, and a stimulant. The cornflower is used for dyspepsia and cosmetic purposes. Flowers are made into an eyewash or eyedrops and made into compresses for the eyes as well. They are used for nervous conditions, both calming and curative. Oh, I just can't wait to plant them all!!
I fixed an old favorite for supper tonight, Italian Beef Soup. Talk about delicious. I have twin brothers and one of them simply loves Italian Beef Soup. It's their birthdays today so obviously, I have them both on the brain. I must call them to harass them just a wee bit. See Ya!!
