After awhile I went outside, shoveled some dirt into a big bucket, mixed in a little sand and put it in the chicken pen. Their little dirt bath area needed more dirt and the chickens were happy, happy, happy to have the refill. Say what you want about the chickens but they have been consistent layers so I try to keep them happy.
It seems as if all the baby birds are hatching here lately. Quite a few Purple Martin babies have hatched along with several barn swallows. When you go into the barn you'll see the swallows sitting on the stall fencing and when you walk under one of the trees along our driveway you'll hear the little critters yelping for the mamas. The orioles have nested there and you can hear their babies crying for food. It's a wonderful time of year. I love the sounds.
Our garden is doing fine and so far nothing has bothered it but we are on constant guard.
