I had to work at the office today and was actually looking forward to being back at it again. I had used my week-end quite successfully, had gotten the house fairly well cleaned up and left home this morning with nary a dish in the sink. I love my kitchen to be sparkly clean when I leave for work. That way I know the first thing I see when I get back home will be conflict free. I deal with enough conflict and disorganization at work. My husband knows if I come home and find dishes all over the sink and counter top I get a wee big grumpy. Since he has retired he's really tried to keep things straight and in order throughout the whole house. He actually washes all his dishes and puts them in the dish drainer. You say, Huh?? Doesn't she have a dishwasher. Well of course I do, but he’d rather wash them than put them in the dishwasher. Beats me why!! Geez! I’ll never understand men, but I do appreciate his efforts and thank him profusely. At least he washes them. You all don't know him, I realize that, but he really is the best! I give the poor guy a lot of grief.
For tonight’s dinner we’re having a couple chicken breasts, sprinkled with my homemade Spicy Blend, baked sweet potatoes, and applesauce. Quick and easy!! I’ve plenty of sweets in the house so I’m not fixing another. When our friends came over on Sunday for coffee and dessert, they brought with them 2 platters of cookies. No, I’m not kidding, 2 platters!! I’m telling you, my hubby’s eyes almost bulged out of their sockets. They brought Red Velvet Sandwich Cookies with a luscious vanilla cream filling, Orange Sandwich Cookies with chocolate cream filling and Fudge Brownie Cookies. Now here’s the kicker. My girlfriend said, let hubby take all he wants!! I stood there and laughed. My husband almost giggled. It was so pathetic! I've never seen him so happy!!!
I told you all in an earlier blog that I was making pickled garlic. The first step of just letting it sit in vinegar for 3-4 weeks is accomplished. Tonight I poured half the vinegar off the garlic and then warmed the vinegar and honey together, poured the mixture over the garlic, put the lids on and put them aside for another 3-4 weeks. Whoooooo!!! I have one potent smelling kitchen. I can’t wait until this next 3-4 weeks are up!! I have no idea about the end product but I'm starting to get excited. The vinegar I poured off is major rank smelling of garlic. I can only imagine that it will be great in a marinade but wow, it's strong and it won't take much. When I use it in a salad dressing I'll definitely let you know how it tastes. This is so exciting.
