Secondly, I must trim back the nettles and get them on my drying screen. It would be a shame to not enjoy the abundance.
Thirdly, I need to trim the roses again. Yes, I had trimmed them back earlier but not far enough. Winter was harder on them then I anticipated. They lived but the canes have got to go!
Fourth, I must finish the laundry I started yesterday. Oh, how I hate to do laundry and this is so common for me. Get them washed, in the dryer and then forget about them. I am bad!!!
Then, if all goes well, I can play in the herb garden and perhaps get those couple spots cleaned up and the summer savory seed in the ground.
People - I am pumped!! Talk to you later.

I did get to the farm market and no, they didn't have any foxglove but I did pick up a couple extra rosemary plants. I use the fire out of rosemary. I love to strip the rosemary leaves off and dry them but what I do is strip them off and leave the tips on, then I like to put fresh small veggies on the stem like a skewer. They are a wonderful treat on the table and will delight your guests. I also use them as skewers on the grill to impart the wonderful scent and flavor.
Laundry is finished and the roses have been trimmed back and I did get a chance to work a little in the herb garden. I planted some lovage seed, purple ruffles basil, sacred basil and cinnamon basil. I have a lot of basil plants to go in yet but wanted to seed in some basil as well. I completely forgot to cut the nettles so I'll do that late this evening. The best time to cut your herbs is in the morning after the dew has dried up and before the sun comes out and before the oils begin to dissipate. If you don't have a chance to get to them in the mornings wait until the evening so your plant can "catch its breath" so to speak. It will have more oils again once it begins to cool in the evening. Still, morning would be better. When trimming please do not EVER take more than 2/3 of the plant. Always leave, at a minimum, 1/3 of the plant above ground.
While I was out in the herb garden I was checking the Sweet Annie plants I had transplanted altogether in one spot. The more I look at them, the more sure I am that they are NOT Sweet Annie but Feverfew. There was just something about the looks of them when I identified them as Sweet Annie that wasn't ringing true. They simply are not Sweet Annie. For me personally, Feverfew will be more useful. Sweet Annie is a wonderful plant to make wreaths out of though I am somewhat allergic to it. I can stand to be around it and work with it but I just can't breathe it in for very long or I have a shortness of breath. Just one of those things, ya know? Now feverfew I use in my migraine concoctions and other teas so I won't whine one bit if that's what it is and I'm more sure than ever. Now do you see the importance of learning to identify your herbs at different stages of growth? I'm still working on it myself!!! Plants have a way of reminding you to be humble and respectful.

Sorry, I'm coming in a little late with the blog this evening. My nettles will have to wait until morning. My horse, Missi, has done something to herself and I don't know what. She can barely walk and she has dried blood on her. To be honest she acts like her leg and hip on her right side are in terrible pain. Hubby is out of town and I'm not what you call a horse person. I just dearly love horses and Missi is mine but I'm not your natural horsewoman by any stretch of the imagination. Hubby does the taking care of the horses. Well, folks I got a little lesson in caring for horses tonight. I gave my first bute to a horse. I know, I know, for you horse people that's no big deal and to be truthful, it wasn't; but I am a very emotional wreck of a person when I get attached to animals and I wasn't sure I could deal. But you know, I either helped her not be in so much pain or I had the opportunity to watch her in awful continuous pain. It was just one of those times when I demanded myself to "suck it up". If she's not better tomorrow we'll have the vet come out but I gave her the bute and she's still up and eating and that's all I can do - for now.
