The adult hummingbirds have already gone south and left the teenagers here. They've been gone for about a week and a half. They were here one day and then next poof! We only have about 6 hummingbirds left and they are filling up with sugar water as fast as I can put it out so I know it won't be long before they too will be gone. Hubby and I also took down the Purple Martin Box and put it away for the season. Oh how I miss the wonderful chatter of the purple martins. All of the flowering plants are working hard giving their last bloom of Summer. It's that time of year when things give it their last hurrah and begin to settle in for the cold to come. It's kind of sad yet we need the changing seasons for bug control and rest for all.
Today I'm going to be cleaning out the rose bed on the side of the house. I actually have a subversive reason for beginning there. Several tomato plants have popped up and are blooming and as you all know, fresh tomatoes are the bomb!! Then I need to get the strawberries strawed. I'm being very careful with them and am doing everything I can to protect them from the Winter weather to come. I intend on picking "a lot" of strawberries next Spring! LOL!!

I put my shoes on and stepped outside. Shock of all shocks it was raining!! Hooray! I hadn't realized it had been raining and I honestly don't even know how long because I've been washing rugs, vacuuming and dusting. It's a nice slow rain, perfect for our gardens. I had put on my shoes to go outside and weed the roses so don't you know, I was so disappointed. NOT! So back to cleaning house. DRAT! I can't win!
