It is generally fortified with B-Vitamins and has protein and several minerals. B vitamins are difficult for me to incorporate into my diet and I don't like pills and there's a lot of evidence out there that says the body doesn't absorb most of the Vitamin B from those capsules anyway. There's also a lot of evidence that states B-Vitamins are excellent for brain health and I'm all for that. Anyway, folks, it's good. I tasted it straight out and threw some on pizza and am already considering how great it would taste on popcorn. They say you can make a great fake Parmesan by using ground almonds and nooch! I want to see what it tastes like sprinkled on pasta and potatoes too. Yum! The greatest thing is "no cholesterol"!!!!!!
What a day!!! It started off okay and went downhill fast! Got to work and turned on my computer to a warning beeping sound which I soon found out meant that my computer was fried! I have a really, really old computer at work and I knew it had been running exceptionally slow this past week but this was not good news. My boss and I had high hopes that it would last through the year. Only 7 more weeks to go and . . . oh, well. I'm an "old" secretary and have spent many a day typing away on a manual typewriter and am probably one of the few secretaries in the world that still takes shorthand!! If our tech guy cannot transfer all the files to my boss's computer at least I'm capable of getting the work done the long, slow way. I did a bunch of work today the old-fashioned way and the repetitiveness is what you don't realize the computer has diminished. Take for instance letters. You've got a form that already has a current date, an address, an opening, a closing and an envelope and I just put in the body and that's just a simple letter!! I am more in love with my computer than I ever thought possible but I'm terribly glad that I know how to get 'er done - the old-fashioned way!! I went out on my lunch hour to buy some arrowroot because I am looking at trying my hand at concocting my own face powder and blushes. I also went looking for Nutritional Yeast or as some call it "nooch". I've run across so many recipes for blends that include nutritional yeast but I've never tried them. Today I decided to see if I could find some at our natural food store. It came in a 10 oz. container and cost me almost $15. I didn't like the idea of buying a container that large but I've been promising myself I would get this for quite awhile now, so I bit the bullet. I couldn't wait until I got it home. It has a taste that is a cross between a cheesy and a nutty flavor. I put some information I found on it on my Did You Know Page. Check it out if you have the time and are interested.

Got up at 6:30 a.m. just energetic as all get out. Got all the laundry out of the basket, sorted it and started the wash. Drank my coffee and began cleaning out the hall closet. I got the nod from Hubby on something I've been wanting to attempt. I've decided to try a paperless kitchen. I already do NOT use paper plates or plastic unless I have tons of people here, but I'm an evil napkin user. I just have to have a napkin at EVERY meal, sometimes 2. Isn't that odd? That's not the way I was brought up. I don't think we ever used napkins while I was growing up. We washed our hands, ate, got up when we were finished washed our hands again and we were fine. Somewhere along the line I've become a napkin addict. Paper towels are fast becoming number two on my list of addictions as well. Anyway, I've decided to try going paperless at least with those two items. I still have paper towels and napkins in the closet for company but we're going to try cloth napkins and I will use dishtowels and dishrags completely from now on. At least I'm going to try. I love to set a nice table and love to use cloth napkins. Obviously, I have quite a few of them so I was going through my closet finding the ones that were older and the ones I really didn't use or like very much for everyday use and keeping together the ones for company or that were matched sets to tablecloths. For starters I figured if I made my table look pretty I would be more likely to appreciate the whole cloth napkin approach. I've got this thing about a pretty table and pretty dishes anyway. Honestly, I'm not really one of those prissy girls - I guess it's just like "playing house" for me, like when you were a little girl, ya know?
I put on my hoodie this morning and tried to beat the rain, but it knew I was going to work outside and the moment I stepped out it started sprinkling. I went ahead and walked out to the herb garden to assess the magnitude of what I had to do today and that's about all I can say about that!! Whew!! After that it started pouring so the rain won today!! A couple weeks ago we were at our son and daughter-in-law's home for hubby's birthday and my daughter-in-law served Crock-Pot Pizza. It was an absolute hit!! When I got home I realized I had forgotten to get her recipe so I went online and found one at Taste of Home. That's what we're having for supper tonight. Go to my Recipes Page to see the recipe. I'll let you know tomorrow how it turned out. I was looking at myself in the mirror this morning, just finishing my hair and knew I was running a little late but not too late. Then it hit me like a bolt of lightning!! I was supposed to dig some red bee balm for my friend and drop it by her house this morning before I went to work. I began to panic and knew immediately there was no way I had time to deliver plants this morning. I quickly called her, apologized and ran to the garden to dig the plants. Hubby grabbed the shovel and did his best to help me . . . and I was off to work. Not a very good start to the day but not a total loss!! I’ll drop them off after work and at least all will not be lost!! I wore pink today and had found something online that I had been wanting to try for a couple months now. I need to buy more pink/mauve-colored blush and I keep putting it off. The kind of blush I wear costs $34 and I was too cheap to buy any more. I don’t wear pink often but I have a couple outfits. Mostly I wear browns and turquoises because I have auburn hair. I had seen online where someone had used hibiscus flowers as a powdered blush. I decided to try it this morning. I put a handful of dried hibiscus flowers in my coffee grinder and ground them to a fine powder. Took a very soft brush with just a very little powder on it, swirled my brush around on the lid of the container, tapped the excess off . . . and it worked perfectly!! I am tickled "pink". I think I’ve just too many irons in the fire right now - more in my head than in the fire. I guess I just feel like I have so much to do before it gets really, really cold in shutting things down around the place. I guess in truth it’s nothing new. I have to do it every year. I need to get everything safely tucked away, all plants covered and/or protected and the herb garden in shape for the Winter to come. I suppose it will just weigh on my mind until it’s completely accomplished. I’m very much the worry-wort. I certainly would like to change that one characteristic about myself but no matter how much I try it still hangs around threatening to rain on my party. It was actually a pretty nice morning out. It’s overcast so chances for rain are high and it’s supposed to be up in the 60's. That’s pretty doggone good temperatures for this time of year! Last night about 8:00 p.m. I got a wild hair and decided it was time to put my Fall dishes up and get out my Winter set. I know - I’m pushing it, but changing sets of dishes for me is like moving the furniture around in the house. It keeps things interesting! I also went out and picked some lavender mums and put them on the table. Fresh flowers just make a home delightful, don’t you think. I realize we all don’t have fresh flowers at our fingertips year round, but sometimes, for some of us, it’s just a matter of thinking about it and looking around you. There are a lot of items in the Fall to choose from. They range from mums, leaves, tree branches, seed heads and nuts to gourds, pumpkins, squash, straw and pine cones. If you want a fresh arrangement, and I mean really want, you can always find something! I got a little antsy yesterday and started worrying about retirement again and Hubby suggested that I needed to make two lists of "Have To Do" and "Want To Do" so that when I retire in January and I’m feeling extra energetic, I can attempt the "Have To Do" list and if I get bored I can do the "Want To Do" list. I told him that’s fine, I’ll try; but I’ve got to be honest, even though a lot of what we do out here is hard work I still "Want To Do" it. My "Have To Do" list has things on it like dust the ceiling fans and clean out the closets. Stuff I just hate to do. I wanted to put laundry on there but really, now, that’s not exactly what he meant, don’t ya know?!! I've just got to quit worrying about the whole situation - but it's getting closer every day!!! Got up this morning to 35 degrees but I had my coffee and got busy. It warmed up nicely through the day. Today I had to get all the garden "trash" (decorations) picked up, cleaned and stashed away for the Winter. You wouldn't think that would be such a big deal but I've got tons of the stuff sitting here, there and yonder. So I got on our trusty lawn tractor and away I went . . . Over Hill Over Dale . . . oh, sorry - I got a little carried away. I got everything except for our benches up to the garage, washed down and safely tucked away. In the middle of all that I went out to the barn to give hubby some assist on the chicken coop. It's finished and it's just beautiful!! Now all I have to do is get out there and clean it up, wash the window, make a curtain for the window and decide on what kind of window plant box I want and start getting chicken stuff, straw, pine shavings, feeders, waterers, stuff like that. Geez!!!! More to this than you think! I then came in the house and tried to decide what kind of a salad I was going to fix this evening. We are going over to our friends house and sit around a campfire, grill some burgers and have a salad. Ah! Did I say I was trying to decide what kind of salad? I think I've decided on my This 'n' That Garden Rotini Salad. I've got some leftover tomatoes, onion, green peppers, carrots, cheese and boiled eggs. Surely to goodness I can pull that together into a decent salad. Maybe I'll put some peas in too. Yes! That sounds better. Good ole standby Garden Rotini. I like to, as my sister does, put cucumbers and squash in it when my garden is full of the stuff and then put ranch dressing in it but this will have to do. Before all the leaves drop off the trees and everything goes to sleep I thought I'd share a few pics with you. I can't get over all the colors but believe it or not this is probably the last few days of all the beautiful shades. The leaves are dropping fast and the trees are becoming more bare each day. Winter is fast encroaching upon our lives so let's remember "Autumn"! Have a wonderful Sunday and enjoy each and every day!! The telephone rang this morning early and since we don't get a lot of early phone calls I was up on my feet in an instant . . . but thank goodness it was just hubby's workplace calling, asking him to come in earlier. I hadn't planned on rising too early today since I'm off and since I had to go in and get my yearly blood work done. I am just about not human in the morning without my coffee and I had everything timed so that I would get up, do the necessary stuff and get to the hospital to have it drawn. That way I wouldn't even miss my morning transfusion, but it was not to be so. My sister e-mailed me and I nearly grouched at her over an e-mail - now that's really bad, ya know?! I will say this. I got into the hospital and for a change wasn't sitting 5 minutes and the lady that took my information was so upbeat, positive and cheery she actually made me feel better. The nurses that took my blood were right on top of things and I was in and out of there in 20 minutes. That's the first time EVER!!! They must have known I was coming!!
I also had to do the grocery shopping today and nearly forgot that Thanksgiving was this month. That means I have to have a turkey. A GREAT BIG turkey for my granddaughters. They look forward each year to seeing granny's turkey. My son wants Lemon Creamed Cauliflower, hubby wants Broccoli Casserole, they all want deviled eggs, and the list continues. We have to have ham as well, mashed potatoes and 2 kinds of gravies, dressing, sweet potatoes and marsh mellows, creamed corn, honeyed carrots, cranberry sauce, a veggie platter, rolls and a salad. That doesn't count the pumpkin pie & whip cream, custard pie, peach cobbler & ice cream, pecan pie and pecan sandies. Seriously now, I'm sure I've forgotten something!! Oh well, by the time Thanksgiving rolls around I'll have it all planned out and everything will be on the table, hot and steaming. This was November 1 and I ordered all the herbs I can't grow myself today from Mountain Rose Herbs, along with essential oils, carriers and hydrosols. I can't wait to get my order. They can't get here quick enough to suit me. I've got BIG plans for this Winter!!! |
AuthorMy name is Nina. Southern Indiana has been my home since 1952. I've been a legal secretary most of my adult life and for my leisure time I enjoy everything connected to the world of herbs and cooking is almost like a "fever". I am also quite opinionated but try not to push my opinions on others. My family is grown and I'm left with a wonderful hubby sharing life with me. I'd guess you'd say my passion is living that life to the fullest. Archives
