Hubby had to go to work and I had to go to town but other than that my day has been pretty laid back. I set the ground beef out to thaw since we're having meat loaf tonight. We're also having macaroni and cheese and buttered carrots. My dilemma now is trying to decide what kind of sweet to make for a dessert. I hate to make desserts, as you all know, but Hubby hasn't had much here lately and I can feel a small sense of urgency coming from him - so why not detour the whole matter and put things on a neutral course. I think perhaps some peanut butter cookies might be called for. I've been having a terrible craving for ice cream and have been wanting to make some homemade vanilla ice cream or maybe even sorbet so perhaps I might prepare that as well. Ah, yes, the key is motivation. How motivated am I to make a sweet for myself? Not too!!!!!
Today I put 2 sweet potatoes in water to get some starts for planting this summer. There's plenty of time to get sweet potatoes started but I'm beginning a little early this year. I always do just fine with the sweet potato starts but I am going to try and see if I can get stronger, bigger starts this year. I like to get a couple quart jars and a couple potatoes that have eyes that seem to be sprouting a little. Then I put 4 toothpicks in them to hold them up in the jar of water. I change out the water about once a week and put them in a sunny window. I then keep my fingers crossed. When they sprout and become at least 6 inches long you can break them off. Then put those little sprouts back into another jar of water and let them grow roots. After that you're all set for planting! I plant them the end of May/1st part of June. The secret is to plant them in ground that is good and warm.
