I went downstairs and started in on the laundry, made some tea, put it in the frig and then went out and picked some more Swiss Chard. I'm going to try the sirloin steak I had talked about yesterday for supper. I'll let you know how it turns out. I also went out to the far end of our property and took some pictures of lilies so that I could show you all what to pick if you wanted to eat the buds and/or the flowers. You will find them on my Picture Page. The secret to the stir-fried buds is to get your olive oil in a pan and barely stir-fry up a couple cloves of garlic and then throw in your freshly rinsed buds. You will only need to stir-fry them for a minute and salt and pepper them. If you fry them too long they will get terribly limp and they are not as good, but if you do them just right they have a tendency to taste a little like mushrooms. I think I'm going to add some hot pepper flakes to mine this time and then also when I serve them I'm going to sprinkle them with fresh parsley and a wedge of lemon. Now, for the blossoms, they are deep fried or pan fried a good deal like you do pumpkin or squash blossoms and they are tasty but then most things coated with batter are good!! Not necessarily that good for you – but pretty tasty!! I do like to take the open flowers though and let them soak a little while in salt water just in case a bug has gotten lodged down inside. I also take the stamen and stigma (that's at the center of the flower) out before I coat and fry them because they tend to be bitter. All in all it's all really good but once you get used to a cleaner taste my bet is you'll enjoy the buds more than the flowers.

Dinner was a hit. Hubby said he could eat like that any day. The Sirloin was great and all I did was put a bowl of cold applesauce next to his plate with a couple slices of garlic bread. He was perfectly happy with just that! I really think he just wasn't real hungry because earlier I had made a coffee cake so he would have something to take to work for a snack. When it came out of the oven it smelled so good and I saw that look in his eyes – so I just told him to go for it. He did!!
Well, I've got a couple blankets to wash and some towels to fold so I'd better get at it. It's back to the office tomorrow!!
