After the day I had Saturday, I was just sure I’d fall asleep in church but I made it. We got home, I fried up some ham for sandwiches and put out the chips and salsa and after lunch we both decided a nap wouldn’t hurt and we were out!! I woke up feeling just great but hubby woke up with laryngitis. We had noticed he seemed to be having the symptoms of a light cold but this was a surprise and I’m not even sure the two are related. Obviously, he isn’t talking much right now, he’s drinking lots of liquids and taking ibuprofen. I’ve also put him on echinacea and having him use some horehound lozenges every now and then. Since he’s a pipe smoker he's decided he won't smoke hardly at all since that definitely will irritate laryngitis. Today he could at least say "Good Morning"! If it doesn’t get better soon I’ll probably start him on licorice but tonight he was even better. He loves oats so he had a big bowl of oats with honey last night and it suited him to a "T"! Oats is soothing plus honey is good for this problem as well.

I don’t have too much on my list for tonight. I am going to pick some Roma tomatoes and start dehydrating them for tomato paste plus I also want a few pints of dried tomatoes for putting in oils, etc. I've got 2 or 3 more heads of cabbage stashed away in the frig and I'm thinking I might make some sauerkraut. My niece made some this year and ever since she said she made some I've been rolling it around thinking maybe I should make some as well. I think I will!! I had a bumper crop of cabbage and I certainly don't need anymore frozen cabbage so this will do the trick! There isn't anything like a pork butt drowning in sauerkraut and when it's all cooked up, mash some potatoes, cook up some green beans and slice some tomatoes. Wow!! That's one of my favorite meals!
I’m on the committee for refreshments for Herb Club on August 26. I want to finalize plans sometime this week with the other girls. We’re going to have Insalata Caprese, cheese balls and crackers, fresh salsa and chips and jello poke cake. Gosh, I hope that’s enough. Sometimes we have a lot of people show up and sometimes we don’t so it’s really hard to gauge the amount of refreshments. The only thing I haven’t decided on is the beverage. I’m thinking perhaps Raspberry Tea and/or Peach Tea with Mint and then of course, water. What do you think? Any of you got a good punch recipe? Lavender Lemonade has been done many times so I don’t want to do that again but I definitely want it to have some relationship to herbs. What do you think?
