Our potatoes are poking through the dirt, the beets, dill and cilantro are finally up and for the time being all is right with the vegetable garden. The herb garden looks great but it still needs some work. I noticed that the pokeweed (click on pokeweed for further information) is ready for cutting. I might fry some up tonight. See my Pictures page tomorrow for instructions on how to fix pokeweed. It's pretty tasty stuff. Some people say it tastes a great deal like fried mushrooms. We're having hotdogs and summer sausages with a small side salad tonight for supper. I could fix just about anything and it would go with hotdogs so perhaps fried pokeweed will fit the bill!
Over Memorial Day week-end my oldest son, his wife and my 2 granddaughters are coming for a visit and I just can't wait. I've decided on having a picnic. I'm in such a dither as to exactly what to fix. It's got to be perfect you know! TeeHee!!
This morning I was sitting out on the deck drinking coffee and heard a bird singing and looked to my left to see this yellow and gray bird with red eyes. At first I thought it was a yellow finch but it was too yellow, too gray and those eyes!! When I looked it up I realized it was a Red-eyed Vireo. It's very pretty!!
Also, see the egg in the salad. Those are eggs from my chickens!! For the record, I have 2 chickens laying now. I know one is Queenie but I haven't figured out who the other one is yet. Oh, it's so exciting.
