Meanwhile, I'm off now to get dressed, have one more cup of coffee and will be working on pears most of the day. As a matter of fact I may make a new recipe I found on Gojee called Cardamon, Ginger and Pear Jam. It just looks delectable. I don't know for sure yet but, I'll tell you what, I'll put it on my Recipes Page and, if you like, you can try it for yourself!!!! I know, for sure, that I'm making pear nectar. I love to take soda water and mix with pear nectar and different kinds of herbs like rosemary or basil and it makes a fantastic cool beverage. Or take some pear nectar and mix with cranberry juice and a stick of cinnamon, heat it up and enjoy during a cold winter's day. There are a lot of alcoholic drinks out there that use pear nectar too - it's just that I've never tried any to date so I can't help you there. Sometimes you can just take some fresh fruit, add a little sprinkle of say, lemon thyme, lemon balm or mint and then pour a little pear nectar over the fresh fruit. Oh, it's just yummy!! You can make all sorts of nectars. It's just that I have a pear tree so I'm well versed in figuring out all sorts of ways to use pears. One of the requirements of being a "Granny" is that I make Cinnamon Pears which is more than quite simple. When canning your pears put a tablespoon of cinnamon red hot candies on the bottom of your quart jar, put your peeled, cored and quartered pears in the jar with 1 Cinnamon stick and then on top of that put 1 more tablespoon of red hots and then pour your hot sugar water over it all, seal and put in a water bath canner for 25 minutes. So easy, but to see the grin on my granddaughters' faces when they go carrying a quart jar to their mom or dad to take home - is priceless!!
I was up really early this morning and was busy going through my e-mail. Have any of you ever seen the food recipes on Gojee.com? They have some wonderful and amazing recipes that they put on there from people all over the country. This morning I was looking at several recipes that had turmeric and cardamon in them. These are spices used a lot in the Fall. Yes, believe it or not there are other spices besides cinnamon and ginger. Try the flavors sometime. I think starting with a little turmeric in rice or cardamon in apple crisp would probably be the best way to introduce your palate to these delightful flavors. I promise - it won't kill you. Oh, here's a little update - I told you yesterday that I was going to be making an old fashioned meatloaf - I did - but . . . I made it with homemade ketchup and some homemade tomato paste. I was somewhat concerned that it wouldn't turn out tasting okay, especially since one of hubby's friends was here and ate with us; but folks, it was just perfect!!

As you know my hubby has high blood sugar. I would love to see some recipes that I could add cumin or other spices that are known to lower blood sugar on your site. Thanks

AuthorMy name is Nina. Southern Indiana has been my home since 1952. I've been a legal secretary most of my adult life and for my leisure time I enjoy everything connected to the world of herbs and cooking is almost like a "fever". I am also quite opinionated but try not to push my opinions on others. My family is grown and I'm left with a wonderful hubby sharing life with me. I'd guess you'd say my passion is living that life to the fullest. Archives
