It’s hard to believe that we’re more than halfway through October. The weather here has been so nice that you are sort of lulled into forgetting that it’s getting later and later in the season!
My hummingbirds are finally gone. I am cleaning up all the feeders today and putting out only 2 feeders, 1 in the front of the house and 1 in the back, just in case there are a few stragglers making their way South. I always keep sugar water here just as late as I can. One year I had a male hummingbird show up at my house on one of the warmer days in early November. Let me tell you - THAT WAS LATE!! I often wonder if he made it South. I had sugar water waiting for him though - but br-r-r-r, it was awfully cold!
Hubby and I are going for a walk in the woods next door this week-end. I’ve been harping about finding a big old oak tree. I want to pick up a bunch of acorns and try making acorn flour. I’ve never attempted anything like this before but I’d sure like to give it a try. Hubby did remind me of one tiny little problem. He reminded me that I would be competing with the deer and that they have been at this a lot longer than I have!!! Yikes! He’s right!! The acorns might all have been eaten by the deer by now. Oh well, I just HAVE to check. If nothing else it will be a nice walk!!
