Taking my husband out for dinner last night for his Valentine was just wonderful. We went early because I know he doesn’t like to wait in lines and we had a nice, peaceful time. It was a good meal and we shared nice conversation. He knew a couple people in the place and they stopped by for a minute to talk with us. It was just an all-round nice evening. We eat at home most of the time or when we do dine out it’s sort of those loud dash-in/dash-out kind of restaurants. This was a nice, quiet evening, with good food and atmosphere. Just like a "real" date (even for old people) TeeHee!!!
When we pulled in our drive at home I gasped!!! I couldn’t believe my eyes - it was way too early, but there over our entire property – scores of Robins. Honestly, they were everywhere!!! We probably have over a quarter acre front lot, a 3-acre field for the horses and then there’s all the property around our house and lake as well. I’m not sure exactly how many cleared acres we have but everywhere you looked there were Robins, on the ground, in the trees, and in the air. This happens every year but it’s too early!!! They’ve never arrived this early. I can always count on our Robins coming through about 2-4 weeks before Spring. We’re either going to have a really early Spring or somehow or the other the weather has messed up the birds’ inner clock big time. Who knows, but I am always amazed each year when they fly through and make our place their pit-stop. I’m telling you the first time you see it, it’s almost scary; but I’m used to seeing it now, and it is simply magnificent!!! I told my husband yesterday evening as he opened our front door, this is the Best Valentine Day ever!!!
I've found more Elderberry recipes: Elderberry Catsup, Elderberry Mush, Elderberry Scramble, German Elderberry Soup, Elderberry Chutney, Medieval Elderflower Cream Cheese Tart and Elderberry Muffins. I can see right now I'm going to be busy trying out some new recipes. The soup and cream cheese tart sound excellent and the chutney would be wonderful with the Cour a la creme I love to make!! Our herb club meets every 4th Monday of the month, and our first meeting of the year is coming up. We are having a tea and we're supposed to bring a cookie or something to eat that goes with tea. I think I'll try the Elderberry Muffins first. Those sound like they would be perfect with tea.
