This Monday morning was very warm and humid. I sat in the herb garden for as long as I could. The mosquitoes are out right now and voracious. I relaxed on my bench remembering how early this Spring I had sat right there and dreamed of trees full of leaves and dreamed of how the garden would look full and lush, overflowing with herbs and flowers. Sitting there this morning - I smiled - for the trees are like a majestic fence surrounding the herb garden with the blue of the sky its ceiling and within its walls are its royalty, common though they may seem, royalty in this kingdom!!
I had to pick more green beans this evening. The Italian Flats were ready to be picked again. I picked the young Top Crop beans for our supper last night so it will be a few days before they will be ready for a canner picking.
I pulled some leftover barbecue out of the freezer for our supper tonight and am fixing a small side salad to have with it along with leftover Blackberry Cobbler. That will just have to do.
I picked some of my basil and brought it in. Something weird happened to some of my lemon basil that were planted close to the spearmint in my garden. Cross my heart!!! The lemon basil smells like the original bubble gum smell or something like cotton candy. That sweet ooey gooey smell. So odd. I assume, and this is only an assumption, that perhaps the lemon somehow crossed or was pollinated by the spearmint and this is what came from it. Anyone got any guesses. It's actually sort of cool. I'm going to try and save some seed from it. Who knows, maybe I'm on to something, but I imagine they probably already have something like that for sale somewhere!!!
Been a long, tiring day. I’m looking forward to hitting the hay, so to speak!!
