My hubby and I went mushroom hunting this morning and we were not successful at all. We walked and looked and scratched around for about 2 hours before we started back to the house. He kept telling me he really thought it was just too early to be hunting mushrooms. He thinks that in about a week we might find some. I was disappointed but it was a great walk!!
After we got back we started working outside. I planted all of my dahlias. I had kept them in the garage in sand over the winter and I had about 9 that looked to be healthy. I also planted all my cannas. My goodness!! I had no idea that once you started planting cannas you would never be without them!! I planted about 21 cannas today and that's definitely all I will ever want. I'm not particularly in love with cannas but a friend of mine had brought 6 bulbs to me as a hostess gift when I had her and some friends over for dinner and I was certainly not going to throw them away!! My Mother used to love cannas. She loved anything that looked like it would grow in Florida. Eventually, bless her heart, she finally got to move to Florida and loved every minute of it - but I have just never been fond of them. I do have to admit they were beautiful last year and I have found that they are a wonderful as a backdrop for other flowers! But 21 is plenty!!
I also planted a salmon pink geranium I had stuck in the garage along with 2 plants of lemon grass and planted my sister-in-law's elephant ear and caladiums that she had brought me. I weeded in the herb garden for about another 2 hours and decided I'd had enough. About the time I stopped, my husband quit mowing, and he looked at me and said, (and I can relate), "I've had just about all of retirement I can stand."
We were so tired. I had some leftover chicken and meatloaf and he and I just had sandwiches for supper. I suppose I'm going to have to be better prepared from now on. I just didn't expect to be so busy today.
Tonight we're just sort of sitting around and resting. I have to work tomorrow and don't want to go to work exhausted and he starts all over outside so you just "gotta give it a rest!!"
