We both went back to work after lunch. I raked up some freshly mowed grass, filled a bucket and gave it to the chickens. You'd have thought I'd given them chocolate cake!! They loved it.
Next I needed to weed around the grapes. A couple days ago I sprayed the grapes with whey, something I've read online that is supposed to help kill the black rot fungus that destroys my grapes year after year and it's especially bad when it's wet and it's usually wet. There are some very strong chemicals out there that you have to have a license for to even use that can correct the problem but that's not something I'm interested in. This spraying of whey(milk will do-it's the protein in the milk or whey that works) should make it better, even if it doesn't completely fix the problem. I figure my grapes are in really bad shape so it's going to take a few years to get them back on the road to health. I really am hoping it works. Nonetheless, they needed to be weeded at the base of the vine and that's accomplished now.
I then went out to the herb garden and by the time I stopped I could barely uncurl my right hand. It was cramping up and was giving me notice that it was time to give it a rest. I hollered at hubby and told him I had to stop and I think he was as grateful to stop as I was. While I was putting away all my tools he went into the house and got me a glass of water. We sat together on the deck and moaned and groaned to each other about our pains, but hey, the place is looking better. At the end of the day we're still smiling.
Steak and mushrooms tonight with baked potato. Then I think you can figure on both of us crawling into bed with nary a whimper.
