Yesterday evening it was cool and calm outside and I took a walk to check on the persimmon trees. Some of the persimmons are just starting to turn orange. Doesn't look like it's going to be a very good year for them but I should get enough for at least a couple recipes of Persimmon Pudding.
While I was out I checked on my Fig Tree. She's still producing although, since it is cool, there are not quite as many ripening as there were. I did end up with 13 figs though. I also checked on our pear tree and I'm thinking in about 3 weeks I'll be hard at it canning pears in one fashion or another. I make some mean pear preserves and I'm out so I imagine I'll have to make a few pints of those. There is an older gentleman that I go to church with that just waits each year for me to give him a pint. Can't let him down!!
There are 3 fairly new zucchini plants that are getting larger in the garden and looking really good but I'm not sure there will be enough hot weather left to give me any actual zucchini. Two more eggplants have burst on the scene and that doesn't hurt my feelings any, but the green peppers are not looking too great. The jalapenos just seem to keep on keepin' on!!
Tonight we're going to dig a couple sweet potato plants just to see where the sweet potatoes are in their growth - plus the potatoes are going to make a nice casserole to go with our grilled pork loins we are having for dinner tomorrow. Tonight we're having some of the vegetable soup I made and canned. Yep, I'm feeling happier - I'm definitely seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!!
