Today I planted my hotbox for the Winter. I already have kale inside it and planted radish seed, onion sets, spinach and lettuces. I also transplanted a few of the smaller chard plants as well. Now the tough part is sitting back, watering them and watching it all grow!! I think I like the hotbox, not because of the actual food, but because I can see green in the middle of Winter. Seeing growing things always gives me a hopeful feeling inside.
Everyone is abuzz that the Farmers' Almanac says this coming Winter is going to be as harsh if not more harsh than last year's Winter and yes, last year's Winter was indeed a hard one. I don't think I have any herbs of value left to die this coming Winter!! No, that's not really true but it sure felt like it this Spring when the realization hit that a good one-half of my herb garden did not survive. I've always said that Mother Nature is one tough lady!
I've been one lazy girl today. I've stayed in the house and did my "pick up and put up" thing. I did make 2 loaves of homemade bread which turned out heavenly! Other than that, I'm a little ashamed of myself . . . but it was just one of those days. What can I say?
