The herb garden has larkspur blooming, along with lavender and feverfew and I have a plethora of red and pink fairy roses. I decided today I would make up 3 arrangements of flowers and herbs and take them to the nursing home. When I got there all I said was, "Could you please see that somebody who hasn't had any visitors lately or who is having a hard time gets one of these?" You'd have thought I was from another planet. She just kind of gave me this blank stare and meekly said yes. I don't know if she thought I was trying to get her to buy them or what – so I just looked at her again and said, “just see that someone gets these please” and I left. I don't know if they will make it to a person's room or not but hopefully, someone will enjoy them. This was my intent when I planted extra flowers this year. I kind of figure I get to enjoy them 24/7 and I needed to share. I don't expect anything in return. I already have everything!
This morning was such a laid-back morning. I slept until 8:30. I haven't slept more than 3 or 4 hours in the last 3 nights, either because of headaches or whatever so I woke up immensely refreshed. Right before lunch I went out and picked a small handful of chamomile. That's it there on the left. I'll probably add a few hibiscus flowers and it will be just enough for a small cup of tea. I have a larger pic on my Picture Page. There to the right is the basil I picked last night. There's a larger pic of that as well on my Picture Page, but the important stuff is there in the middle. Yum!!! That's supper or at least part of it. We're having fried ham, Swiss Chard and fresh garden potatoes, fresh onions and cornbread. Now that's country eating at it's best. I'll boil up the little baby potatoes, saute the Swiss Chard in olive oil, garlic and pepper flakes and then when they're just right I'll toss them together. I'll then add one pat of butter for a little finishing shine and touch. That my friends is the lighter version of country eating - but it works. It's definitely not my mother-in-law's version because that includes bacon grease but if I don't mention it, no one will know the difference. You can eat old-fashioned country food and it can be good for you. Just use your noggin'!!!

Such a lovely thought to arrange fresh herbs and flowers for a few lucky residents in the nursing home. What a shame that you had to give them to some mindless twit who lacked enough social skill to even thank you. Your gesture qualifies for a grand random act of kindness and I bet many of your readers thank you!

Amen Ms. Wren! People just don't do the little things like that anymore. Thats probably why the young lady was dumb founded by the gesture. I'm sure that some lady or gentleman is going to totally enjoy those arrangements.

AuthorMy name is Nina. Southern Indiana has been my home since 1952. I've been a legal secretary most of my adult life and for my leisure time I enjoy everything connected to the world of herbs and cooking is almost like a "fever". I am also quite opinionated but try not to push my opinions on others. My family is grown and I'm left with a wonderful hubby sharing life with me. I'd guess you'd say my passion is living that life to the fullest. Archives
