The corn we got from our half row was absolutely delicious and some of the corn had 2 ears on it but that second ear just didn't look ready so we hadn't picked it. Today I went out and picked the rest of those ears. They were small and most people would probably think not worth picking but I went ahead and picked them, and got some small (and I do mean small) ears of corn, plus I collected corn silk for corn silk tea. Hubby has problems with kidney stones and corn silk has long been used for urinary problems. The way to collect the corn silk is to take your ear and tear the dark corn silk off the top. It's had who knows what crawling around in it and toss it. Then, just like I always do grab a big chunk of the green on each side and tear down and then pull off the silks from the inside, and then finish shucking the corn. Then I lay the silks out on a paper towel and let them dry, probably 8 to 10 days and then put them in a glass jar in a dark, cool spot for use later. It's very easy to do. When you make the tea put in about 1-2 teaspoons of corn silk for every cup and fix your tea just like you regularly do. It's corn tasting but I think it tastes great with honey which also adds some medicinal benefits itself but you can add other herbs, like peppermint or lemon balm as well. I've put more information on my Did You Know? page. Check it out!!
I then went out and picked red raspberries and added them to what was already in the frig. After I decide what I'm going to do with the corn and after I freeze the cabbage - THEN I'll be making red raspberry jam. Probably won't get much more done today but we'll see.
