I went out today and picked some chickweed for an infusion I am making. It's an old wives' tale that chickweed helps obesity. Supposedly it can eliminate fat cells, according to Susan Weed. Now I don't know if that's true or not but she advises that the saponins in chickweed increase our ability to absorb nutrients, especially minerals and they are also able to break down unwanted matter, including disease-causing bacteria, cysts, benign tumors, thickened mucus in the respiratory and digestive systems and excess fat cells. If this is all true then a chickweed infusion could very well help with weight. I honestly don't know but it can't hurt. She suggests one ounce of the dried herb to a quart jar of boiling water and let sit for 4 hours; then drink. Two cups a day should do the trick. Store leftover chickweed infusion in the refrigerator. I used fresh chickweed and put 2 ounces in a quart jar, covered with filtered water and set it out in the sun. This is kind of a fun experiment!! I almost hated to use it for an infusion. I find chickweed on a sandwich a delicacy! To give chickweed up for an infusion. Well, I say no more. We all know how I love to eat, huh?!!
What a morning!! Breezy and just short of chilly here. This is quite a change from what we've been having. I had to make a run to the store to pick up some copy paper and the temperature at that time was 59 degrees! Lovely! I went out today and picked some chickweed for an infusion I am making. We all know how I love to eat, huh?!! About 2 weeks ago we had an unusual visitor and since that time he's been back and even built himself a little cubby hole in the barn. He lays around our field and under Hubby's tractor like he owns the place. We have no idea where he came from and we know that something sooner or later will get him and he doesn't hurt a thing around here. So far he doesn't even know we have a garden. He is just so precious. He won't even move unless you get a little too close and then he just hops on his way. We adore him.

Well, Little Sis, when you live out here in the country you would find yourself with a whole zoo of animals if every animal that showed up you built a nice cozy home for him to live. By this time I'd have oh, about a hundred cats, 50 dogs, racoons, and who knows what else. He's adorable but he's not mine. Now mind you I'm not going to hurt him but at this point in time, I am not interested in raising rabbits!! You also have to realize-you never know if an animal is diseased or what! It's hard for me not to grab him right up and love him to death but it just can't happen! You just have to let nature take its course.

I know I know but I can't help but want to pick him up and love on him too! I'm such a sucker for animals. I definitely wouldn't be a good country person. (:

AuthorMy name is Nina. Southern Indiana has been my home since 1952. I've been a legal secretary most of my adult life and for my leisure time I enjoy everything connected to the world of herbs and cooking is almost like a "fever". I am also quite opinionated but try not to push my opinions on others. My family is grown and I'm left with a wonderful hubby sharing life with me. I'd guess you'd say my passion is living that life to the fullest. Archives
