For about 15 minutes before all the other birds got to the feeder this woodpecker was having the time of his life. He would get a sunflower, stick it in a hole on the pole and pick the seed out then fly back to the feeder for more. He played around, hung upside down and enjoyed himself immensely.
I trudged out to feed the horses and chickens this morning and everyone was fine but there was no way my chickens were going to step outside their door. I even went to the trouble of putting straw down for them to walk on but they absolutely refused to come outside while it was snowing . . . and folks, it's still snowing!! So, I got out my trusty pan, filled it with chicken feed and refilled their heated dog bowl with water and by 1:00 p.m. they had laid 6 eggs so obviously, they are doing just fine. So far they've not picked any fights with each other-out of pure boredom. That's what I'm keeping my eyes open for. I don't want them to get too bored. Sometimes when that happens they start pecking on the chicken lowest in pecking order but so far I don't see any of that.
Yesterday I put the correct amount of flour and water in the sourdough starter and stirred it up really well. Today is the last time I do it before I can begin to make bread from the starter. I'm actually kind of excited about it!! Tomorrow's the big day. Hmmmm!! Now what bread to make!
