I came back in the house and had my coffee while answering some of my e-mail and then got dressed and started working in the kitchen garden. It needs a good cleaning and weeding plus I've bought some mums and they needed planted so I'm getting 2 items done at the same time. I have a really big job on my hands because I have been quite remiss in keeping it manicured!! On my breaks I've made more hummer water and iced tea. Can't stop now!!!
---------------------------------
Whew!!! It's 11:00 a.m. and I've got all the mums in and most of the kitchen garden finished . . . but I could use about 1 more hour of work on it, but not at the moment. I'm bushed. I have some echinacea/purple cone flower that was becoming evasive, not a lot, but some - so I dug it up, washed it and am going to dry it for tea this Winter. I will, after the first frost dig echinacea out in my herb garden. That is when it is at its prime and most potent, but what I dug today will just be milder - and I'm not throwing it away!! When I dig the echinacea from my herb garden I'll get you some pics and walk you through it, just in case you have some questions. It's not any big deal but I remember what it was like when I started growing and working with herbs and I would have given anything for somebody to walk me through it!
I went out into the herb garden this afternoon and cut some nettle seed and checked to make sure I had enough dried nettle to reconstitute for Nettle-Potato Soup. On September 23, I am going to do a program on Nettles for the River Regions Herb Society. When I offered to do one for them I could see many of the ladies' eyes glaze over. "Nettles!!!!" one proclaimed, "oh my." It sounds like it's going to be a boring program huh? But honestly, I don't think so. There is so much information to share. It's great for food, beverages and medicines for human and animal consumption. I've got some surprises for them!!!
