I got up this morning and mopped the floors, sliced and sugared the strawberries and made hubby a lunch. I also went out into the garden to see if our plants had been nibbled on and they had not been bothered last night. I got home after work and made the strawberry shortcakes, made some homemade croutons, marinated the chicken breasts and pork loins and prepared the BLT Salad. I didn’t completely make the salad because I was waiting on my granddaughters to get here. I was going to take them out in the garden and we were going to pick the lettuces, arugula, onions, radishes and dill together. I like to have them do that with me, first because they love to be in the garden but secondly, I want them to see where their food comes from. It will taste a whole lot better when they know they’ve picked it themselves, but time was not on our side and we'll have to skip the produce-picking lesson this trip. Their Papaw is going to let them pick strawberries too. We’ve gotten the best of the strawberries already so we have decided we will put the 2 girls inside the strawberry bed and let them pick (and eat) all the strawberries they can find and if they step on the plants - it won’t hurt a thing!!
There’s a whole lot of commotion when they get here, like hugs and kisses and more hugs and kisses, and decisions about which apron they will wear or where they will sleep; so I’m going to stop here and get outside on the deck and wipe down my tables and get as much done before they come so I can get some extra kisses and extra hugs.
