It’s been a really nice day. I had lunch with a friend and we gabbed until it was time for me to head back to work. I really appreciate the ability to get out of the office on my lunch hour. Many people do not get that perk. It really is like a breath of fresh air. When you get back you honestly feel like getting down to work again. I’ve worked under both conditions and this is by far the better.
I got home this evening, changed clothes and went straight outside to fill up my birdfeeders. While I was out I couldn’t escape the compulsion to walk around and breath in the sweet air. It’s nice to have a warm, cozy home in the Winter to live in and I appreciate it very much, and it’s nice to have an air-conditioned home during the summer; but there’s nothing like the outdoors on a calm, mild day, nothing!
I sort of walked around and picked up tree limbs and branches and threw them over in the woods. We have a never-ending supply of them. That’s one of the worst jobs in the Spring, picking up all the tree debris that has fallen in our yard. You get a real work-out at the waist, constantly bending and tossing, bending and tossing. My husband rakes and I pick up sticks - It’s just how we’ve always done it. I’m not too proud of the fact that my upper body strength is next to nothing thus raking lasts for me about 20 minutes and I’m totally finished. It just takes all I’ve got, but he and I working together manage to get it done.
As I rambled about outside and the nighttime was slowing settling in, I walked up to the herb garden. If I'd been a bettin' woman I'd say my rosemary had bit the dust after this last freeze but there it was - still green. I wonder how much more it can stand. Plants are so amazing! I sat down on my bench, sat and listened to the wind as it would come down over one hill, go into the holler and come out on the other side, run through the trees and build as if it were a great crescendo, growing and growing, touching certain sounds and notes that no voice could dare to equal. It was like sitting in a room filled with music never composed or heard before and I was hearing and experiencing it for the first and only time. It's just so much more than amazing!!
