But yesterday evening . . . that was another story entirely. I was so tired by the time I made the Coffee Cookies and fixed supper, that I was really dragging. When you’re typing this stuff it doesn’t look like much but I’m telling you, when you’re doing it and living your everyday life, sometimes it’s a little more work than it sounds. But hey, I'm not telling any of you anything new. That's life!
I did finally stop and had a few questions on my mind so I got on the computer and was looking around. I had told all of you that I didn’t have a Sourdough Starter for the French Bread and was trying a new recipe out. Did any of you notice that the directions didn’t tell you how to feed it? I went looking to see what other people feed their starters. I started this one with no sugar and I’m going to try to continue with no sugar so I’m going with: for every cup of starter used add 1-1/2 cups flour and 1 cup water. We’ll see how that works out and I’ll let you know that as well. But . . . now here’s the funny part. Well, actually not funny at the time; but kind of funny. As I was perusing the site I noted one comment stated that her starter started bubbling up really soon and her bowl wasn’t big enough. Now, I’m well aware that starters grow and I thought I had put it in a large enough bowl but when I read that, I jumped up and ran to the cabinet and sure enough there was my starter flowing out over my bowl onto the cabinet. I wanted to scream but luckily, I had caught it just in time so that I lost very little of it. I transferred it to an even larger bowl and hopefully, we’ll live happily ever after. I checked it this evening and everything looked A-OK! I love trying new stuff but this is par for the course.
Tonight has been a fairly quiet evening. I stir fried up some tenderized sirloin steak, adding some herbs and spices and some garlic, onions and green peppers and fixed a small salad with just a little lemon juice and oil as a dressing. I boiled up a few ears of corn and that seemed to hold us for dinner. My husband took Coffee Cookies for his snack at work today so I was pretty sure he wouldn’t be too tore up that I had no dessert for him. I was careful though. Just in case he went into an all-out panic attack I had one bowl of jello with fruit and whip cream left - so I figured that would keep the lion in him at bay. But he was a little lamb . . . he had already spied the jello, who’s kidding who!!!
I'm going to get into the kitchen now and make some Dessert Crackers for my hubby to take to work tomorrow. There is the nicest young girl at his work that is having a birthday tomorrow and she LOVES Dessert Crackers.
