I had gotten up this morning and made chili for tonight's supper and I made pie dough and had just put it in the frig to rest for an hour or two when that urge hit and off I went into the wild blue yonder or I guess it could be called the wild white yonder. It was perfect! I filled all my birdfeeders and before I could turn around I heard a chickadee at the feeder. By the time I got around the lake Missi was as close to the fence as she could get. She was sure I had something for her. I scratched around under her chin and tromped back to the house and got into the basement frig where we store apples and pears and got her and Power some treats. Went back out and it was obvious that was exactly what they were waiting on. Then they were perfectly happy.
When I went into the herb garden I checked on my rosemary and sure enough she was sitting there just as proud as could be. You know, she just might make it until Spring. Wouldn't that be wonderful!! After killing 7 or 8 when I brought them in this last Fall - it would be a mere stroke of luck!! The Zebra Grass is just beautiful with the snow on its stems and gives such wonderful Winter structure to my herb garden. I have it planted on each side of my garden and in one of the corners and it adds so much. I always thought that kind of thing was a bunch of hooey but it really does make a difference in your garden. When you're building and planting think about how it is going to look not only in the Spring when the plants are small and well kept and when the dirt has just been tilled up; but think about the garden and how it will look in the Summer during times when the weeds start to needle you, the Fall when things start to die back AND the Winter when your garden sleeps. Each stage brings its benefits and its struggles but all are important in terms of how your garden looks and in how and what manner you will be using it. For instance, many people leave their Fall garden completely alone because they want to leave all seed and materials for the birds during the Winter-while others clean it up in the Fall in order to not have a huge clean-up job in the Spring. Choose well, it really makes a difference.
As soon as I finish talking to you I'm going to get up and go bake a blackberry cobbler. This will thrill my husband to death. Then I'm off to the basement. I need to make some more Italian Seasoning, Poultry Seasoning and Garlic Salt. I'm just about out of all three.
Tomorrow is Sunday. Have a restful day and I'll talk to you again on Monday. See Ya!!!
