I left work an hour early today to get home. It hadn't begun to freeze on the roads but it wouldn't be long.
On my lunch hour I drove to the gas station and filled my tank just in case - I'm a just in case sort of gal. I also went to Wal-Mart. I really didn't need anything major. I knew I only had 2 eggs left and I thought perhaps I'd go pick up a dozen and a small bunch of bananas. I don't know why I do what I do sometimes. I should have known. I decided to forego the bananas since they were still green and picked up a dozen eggs. I went up to pay for my eggs through the self-check-out and immediately was told that 2 of them were for card only and 2 of them were for cash. Fine - except that the lines that stretched out before me for all four lines had people lined up around the corner. ARE YOU CRAZY!!! I am not going to stand there for 1 dozen eggs. I don't need them that badly!! What is it about weather warnings that brings people out in droves. Are they that unprepared?! I guess maybe they are! I tell you about this experience because I'm sure you've probably had the same at one time or another. I also realize I used the word "they". Are you the "they"? Or could you fend for yourself for a week, a month, a couple months? CAN YOU GET BY FOR A WEEK-END? Obviously, there were hundreds of people that could not. What IF something happened, a true disaster? How prepared are you? I know, I know we ALL could use an extra half gallon of milk but could you get by? Could you make it?
I am going to make Red Raspberry Sherbert tomorrow and probably Blackberry-Basil Sorbet. I have two sorbet makers so I can make 2 batches in a 24-hour period. Do any of you have ice cream or sorbet makers? I just love mine. What kind do you have?
This week-end I've got to get serious and start making Christmas breads and cookies for the freezer. I might make some caramel corn too. That sounds so good! Hubby is chomping at the bit for his first batch of fudge too!
I'm looking forward to this week-end. It's the beginning of the holiday baking and cooking season for me and I thoroughly enjoy it.
