It’s been a really good day. Can you tell?
I went out into the vegetable garden this morning and the few cabbage and broccoli plants that were not under tomato cages had been nibbled on - but nibbled is acceptable - not good - but acceptable. Isn’t it just a hoot!! For some reason these rabbits are afraid of the tomato cages. Yep, we’re talking just ordinary tomato cages with the big holes in them. Holes they could get through and eat to their hearts’ content but so far they haven’t touched them. Hopefully they won’t realize their strange fear until the plants are large and tough enough that they will lose most of their enticement. Keep your fingers crossed!!
I had to meet the bride’s Mother this afternoon after work at the reception hall. I wanted to sort of scope it out and see where the kitchen was located and what it had available. I needed to mentally work it out in my head where everything would sit and the work path to and from the tables. You know, all those little details that drive a maniac like me nuts!! I really want to do this and do it well. I’m actually getting a little pumped. When I finally get the cooking finished I’m thinking the rest should be almost fun!! My friend is joining me that evening and she will be putting the final touches on my appetizers, like little sprigs of spearmint on the mini-quiches, chives in the shrimp shots, stuff like that. Those "little" things are what make is special. They are not hard but they are so time consuming, so she’s going to make my night go a lot smoother.
After that I had to do the grocery shopping and made a trip to Dollar Tree for little toys for my grandchildren coming this week-end to visit. I have tilled up a spot in my herb garden where I will bury a bunch of little toys and when they come, Granny will get her garden tools and we will go out to the garden under the pretense of working and when we get there we are going to go treasure hunting. I’ll have them start digging in that special spot and when they come across the first item I’ll start in with something like, "Oh my goodness!! Do you think there’s more buried treasure? Let’s keep digging . . . this must be where the garden gnomes hide their treasure." I’ll be off and running with some wild story. Kids nowadays have forgotten how to use their imagination and if you want it to stay that way you gotta keep ‘em away from me!!!!!!!
