During a pause in the rain I walked out to the herb garden this morning. It was so warm outside that all I had on was a sweatshirt and that was enough. What was just absolutely awesome was the fact that 2 days ago there was very little green popping through but this morning after the warm night last night and the Spring rain, herbs and flowers were everywhere! They were popping up just everywhere I looked!! It was amazing. It was like the herb garden had come alive. The daisies were pushing their way through the straw, the chives were at least another 2 inches in length, columbines were everywhere, lovage has sprouted, nettles ready to cut again, mint starting to come up, Egyptian Walking Onions are ready to pull and eat, Ladies Mantle green and lacy and I could go on and on. It was simply joyful.
I checked my hotbox out and I had lettuce up already!! Can you believe it? The grapes aren't exactly what I call budding and I don't know if you've ever grown grapes or not, but they get this sort of burgundy color right before they start budding. They look so pretty but that means I'll probably have to start pruning them within the next week or so and that makes me nervous as a cat because I honestly am a "newbie" at that sort of thing. I'm also going to try taking organic whey and cutting it with water and using it as a spray for the grapes instead of using harsh chemicals on them. This will be a nerve-wracking year for the grapes and me.
