The weather is somewhat overcast today and rather warm but it's really not been too bad. We have had some rain but nothing of any major consequence, at least no so far! It most certainly looks wicked out though.
I've refilled all the hummer feeders and have been keeping an eye on my purple martins. The sparrows have been giving them fits. I think they are aggravating them because they have babies and the sparrows do not yet. At least that's what it seems. Not being a birder, I'm not really sure but they are just driving the martins crazy. Usually, the martins share their box with a nest of sparrows without any trouble; but just in the last week or so they've been doing quite a bit of infighting.
Oh goodness, I've finally figured out what was happening with the Purple Martins. Some of their babies are now flying. We started with 4 and there were 7 in the air today and I could hear some chirping away still in the box. This is so exciting!! At least now I know the fussing and fighting between the sparrows and the martins was probably because the martins were being overprotective of their babies. Honest to goodness, you ought to hear them. It's such a joyful chirping and they just keep gurgling their beautiful sounds . . . all of them just having the time of their lives, dipping and dodging, soaring and diving, skimming the water and making those beautiful airplane-like landings. They are just amazing.
Where Hubby works, they are doing inventory today and have asked him to come in at 2:00 p.m. and stay until midnight. Mercy, he's going to be dragging tonight. They are going to feed him so I didn't have to worry about that but I sure don't like him working that long. He gives them all he's got and sometimes I'm just worried he might hurt himself in the process. Oh, well, not like I can stop him.
Since Hubby is gone there's no reason for me to fix the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans. I can fix that tomorrow evening - but what to fix for little ole me, hmmmm.
I know!!!! I have 2 more avocados in the frig and 1 lime. I went out to the garden and picked some cilantro, pulled some onions, went to the garage and got some garlic and came upstairs. I promptly made some guacamole. He hates the stuff and I love it, so tonight I shall indulge myself!!
