I was looking at my calendar and in just 5 weeks our Martin Scout should be coming in to check things out. Until I started looking at the calendar I truly didn't realize just how close we are to Spring!! Today I start planting seeds. This is a "big" deal! This is the beginning. The beginning of another gardening year is quite a moment. I'm terribly excited!
I don't know what I'd do without my birdfeeder. To tell you the truth, I am climbing up a wall and can't seem to keep myself motivated to do anything!! Sometimes I just stand at the window and watch the birds for hours.(Maybe that's why I'm not getting anything accomplished.) They are absolutely amazing. My friend gave me a bird book and I'll see a bird and try to identify it. You'd be amazed at the many, many types of birds you'll see once you actually take the time to look, and I mean really look!! I will miss them gathering when Spring comes but nonetheless COME ON SPRING!!!
I fixed ham and beans, fried potatoes and cooked cabbage tonight. Oh my gosh, it was so good but it was such a heavy meal and so very messy. I do believe the only thing that rivals the mess of fried potatoes is fried chicken. I haven't fried chicken in so long I'm embarrassed to say.
The pumpkin pie I made for dessert was a success. Every Thanksgiving I bake pumpkin pie. Why? Well, you just must!! AND every Thanksgiving I've always got so much food and way too much to eat and I rarely even eat a piece; so as far as I'm concerned, this is the way to go. It was so-o-o-o good. I tried a new recipe and it's definitely a keeper.
You can't go wrong with pumpkin!! I've probably got another 6-7 packages of pumpkin frozen (2 cups in each package) and I've still got several pumpkins sitting in the basement as well. Looks like pumpkin cookies and/or pumpkin bread are called for, don't you think?
