Also, Sunday morning I looked out my kitchen windows at about 8:00 a.m. and saw 6 bluebirds. We have a heated birdbath attached to the deck railing and they were sitting there drinking away. It was a pretty cool sight but when I went to get my camera and opened the door they flew off. Later I caught our mockingbird taking a sip too. These are the small wonders of living out here. True, you have to appreciate the wild first but if you have any love of nature at all - no matter how blue you feel, these beautiful scenes will bring a smile to your lips.

Monday morning!! I went to sleep last night about 11:30 p.m. and woke at 5:15 a.m. and for the first time since the beginning of the year I actually rolled over and went back to sleep until almost 8:00 a.m. Days just go so much better if you've had enough rest. You wake up brighter and in a much better frame of mind. At least I do!! After almost 2 months of inadequate rest I tend to get very, very down. I can get up in the morning and give it a great go but by the time late afternoon comes I'm scraping the bottom of the pit. I always did say that when I retired I knew that January, February and March would be tough and that it would be difficult getting through those 3 months simply because I cannot get out and get my hands in the dirt and feel the warmth of the sun; but I gotta admit, it's been much, much more difficult than I ever imagined this year. I really wanted to try my hand at staying home and making a go at doing things I've always dreamed of doing yet never had time but whew, getting through these 3 months is some major trial. I find my biggest problem is motivation. I just can't seem to get motivated!! I have a calendar and I've got some things scheduled on it and so far I've managed to do them but I certainly didn't want to!! Isn't that just terrible? Are there any recent retirees out there that have got any suggestions for me. I'm listening!!!!!
This morning I put in the oven a HUGE pork shoulder. I put carrots and parsnips, onions and celery around the outside and sprinkled with flour, salt, pepper and my homemade pork seasoning. I'm going to make some rice and gravy to go with it for supper and have corn on the cob. Then with the leftovers I'm making barbecue. Yummmm!! Don't know which meal I'm going to enjoy more!! I may bake some homemade bread in my basement oven. I haven't made any bread all Winter. I usually make a lot of bread. For some reason, this year, I just haven't. Maybe I will today.
