Even though it's Friday - I've decided to make pizza. I have a little sausage in the frig that needs to be used and we've both been talking about phoning in for a pizza and running uptown to pick it up. I should be ashamed - I can make one almost as good and it's not even that difficult, so pizza it is. I went out to the herb garden and pulled some Egyptian Onions (multipliers) because I was out of regular onions. They will do fine. The green peppers are sliced and sitting in the frig as well as the pepperoni. I put a block of mozzarella cheese and a smaller block of sharp cheddar cheese through the food processor and the shredded cheese is now in a baggie in the frig. I'll make the dough and while it's rising, I'll fry the sausage, make the pizza sauce and the rest will be easy. I've got fresh basil, oregano, hot pepper flakes and garlic, fennel seed, lots of olive oil and a little corn meal to toss on the pan. I think I'm good to go!! It's all downhill from here!! Hand me a little Italian Seasoning and Garlic Salt and I'm good. My only quandary is - do I add bacon!!!
It's been a busy morning around here! First, I went out to the garden and pick a bunch of Swiss Chard and noticed that the Swiss Chard and kale in the hotbox needed picking as well. I came into the house with enough to make a nice batch of greens and red potatoes sometime this week-end - or I could chop and freeze the greens. I use Swiss Chard in place of spinach often and can always use another package in the freezer. I then went out to the herb garden and cut a bunch of green, yummy smelling basil and put it on my screens to dry. I've got a bunch of cinnamon basil as well that I have not cut yet. I just haven't decided what I want to do with it yet. I've got to figure it out though in the next couple days or it will be too late. The basil will either have flowered too much or a frost will hit. Either way, I've got to make up my mind. I've been thinking about making some sorbet, some cinnamon basil oil, pancake syrup or perhaps just drying it for seasoning. I suppose whatever hits me is what it will be!!

AuthorMy name is Nina. Southern Indiana has been my home since 1952. I've been a legal secretary most of my adult life and for my leisure time I enjoy everything connected to the world of herbs and cooking is almost like a "fever". I am also quite opinionated but try not to push my opinions on others. My family is grown and I'm left with a wonderful hubby sharing life with me. I'd guess you'd say my passion is living that life to the fullest. Archives
