I went out to the garden and picked the hot cayenne peppers I'll be using for hot sauce and took a look at my two jalapeno plants. I was considering making poppers for supper tonight but it doesn't look like I really have enough. I kind of couldn't believe it because . . . every year I have jalapenos coming out my ears. I usually plant 6 plants and I always end up throwing bunches away. This year I only planted 2 plants, so wouldn't you know - I am craving poppers; plus, I found an interesting recipe for what is called Candied Jalapenos and I didn't grow enough! When you're gardening there's always something. Next year I'll plant 6 plants again!! By the way, anyone out there had Candied Jalapenos? Let me know what you thought of them. I could use some input.
For supper we're having hamburgers tonight. I'm also fixing a dish that came up on realsimple.com today that I have been fixing for years only using regular breadcrumbs. It's honestly nothing special but makes a nice light side. They have used panko bread crumbs and frankly, I don't know why I hadn't thought of using panko crumbs myself. I'm rather taken with panko bread crumbs anyway so I was totally okay with that change. You can find the recipe on my Recipes page.
This afternoon I dropped by the farm market and picked up a peck of apples. I'm feeling a need for applesauce and while I was there I started moaning over their grapes. I've got a grape arbor but it has some kind of disease and I haven't found anything to keep the disease at bay and this being a wetter year than usual - it was disastrous. So anyway, I bought 5 pounds of grapes to make some grape jelly. Hopefully, next year I can get on top of things here and pay more attention to the grapes, because I do so adore homemade grape juice!!
