It rained off and on all day yesterday and last night. This morning everything looks wet, lush and green. The plants in the vegetable garden look as though they've grown at least an inch taller. It's so wonderful to see things growing but now comes the hard part - buckling down and keeping things in shape, weeding and hoeing. People love beautiful gardens. We have people drop by all the time and ooooh and ahhhh and in reality have no idea, even though we try to tell them, how much work it takes to maintain a garden. We're not trying to be negative or sway them from growing their own but we're trying to make them look at things realistically. You have to "want" something bad enough to be willing to work hard and make it beautiful. It seems like people nowadays snap their fingers and believe "whatever they desire" will show up at their doorstep wrapped in a pretty package and tied with colorful bows. That's not how life is. As a country we too are adapting to this whole concept. Many still do not realize that if you want something you must work for it. You're not owed all that you desire just because you exist!! - - - - Anyway, I see the work coming but I'm still smiling because I see work that pays off and it is pure joy!
I've been seeing these recipes everywhere for Chicken and Sweet Potato Soup and have decided to make my own concoction with what's leftover in the frig. I'm using pheasant since that was what I had from the bone broth I made(I've already frozen the chicken breasts). I have a few carrots and celery leftover and a couple small sweet potatoes from our last year's garden, chicken stock that I canned up and I think I'll use my homemade poultry seasoning. I have a couple leftover yellow onions and a couple lemons, and 1 jalapeno in the frig. I've got green onions and cilantro fresh from the garden. I always keep coconut oil so I think we're good to go! Hmm-mm, should I add garlic or not? That's my dilemma. I've been told when in doubt ALWAYS add garlic! I'll let you know if it's any good and if it is, I'll put the recipe on my Recipes page tomorrow.
I went out for a walk today to take a few pics and now I'm in the house trying to quit shaking. I have a terrible fear of snakes and while I totally get that snakes are great to have in your garden, it matters not to me. I already had the camera up and ready to snap and nearly had a heart attack!! I took the pic and ran for the hoe but he's still out there!!!
