I spent a lot of time in the herb garden today trying to spruce it up a bit. That being said - there's no way I could do enough to effectively spruce it up to my liking! I've not been too engaged in my herb garden for the last few months due to the vegetable garden and canning, which is not unusual; but oh my, I've so missed spending time there. It brings me such peace working in my garden. Right now though I feel like I'm spending a great deal of time just trying to catch up! I love it - I just have to figure out a way in the future to juggle both gardens. I don't like my vegetable garden looking like nobody owns it and I don't like letting my herbs go either!! I guess my gardens are a little like my life, maybe like all of our lives. We get so wrapped up in one portion of our living that we let another portion completely go to waste or at the very least-get weedy. MODERATION - I have the absolute hardest time with that word. How about you? Perhaps the word is PERFECTION - I have a pretty hard time with that word too. What d'ya think?
I set aside this week to play in herbs. I wanted to prepare some teas, blends and other items and decided to set aside a little time to play the end of this month. I intend to do a lot of herbing this Winter but I needed a "fix" now!! Early this morning I was downstairs filling tea bags with chamomile flowers for a soothing chamomile tea when it gets colder. I also put together what I call Restful Tea. This tea is fairly tasty and relaxes you. It's a wonderful mixture and I will put the recipe on my Recipes page. I drink it with honey and imbibe in the evening, especially when I have had a rousing day and haven't stopped to breathe. It tends to slow me down a little and get me ready to actually close my eyes. I usually leave this as a loose-leaf tea but I'm taking some of it and filling single-serving tea bags as well. Believe it or not, some people kind of freak using loose-leaf teas. They've grown up on bagged tea and seeing all those little "green things" in the water makes them crazy!! Use to make me crazy too!!! (Ya know - they do sell tea socks and strainers for getting the "green things" out.) For years I've pushed people to use loose-leaf tea and to also boil up their water and not nuke it. I suppose there's nothing wrong doing it the fast way but making tea in an old fashioned manner allows you to take time out for yourself and makes you appreciate the small things. Plus it puts you in a slow-down mode. That mode is almost unheard of in this culture!

AuthorMy name is Nina. Southern Indiana has been my home since 1952. I've been a legal secretary most of my adult life and for my leisure time I enjoy everything connected to the world of herbs and cooking is almost like a "fever". I am also quite opinionated but try not to push my opinions on others. My family is grown and I'm left with a wonderful hubby sharing life with me. I'd guess you'd say my passion is living that life to the fullest. Archives
