I just received a notice from the seed company. My last package of seeds is on its way. This year I didn't have to order too many and I've already received cabbage, broccoli, zucchini, cauliflower, beet, calendula and persimmon tomato seeds. I have some calendula seed saved from last year but not as much as I needed and did not save any persimmon tomato seed, zucchini or beet seed. I've never started cabbage, broccoli, or cauliflower from seed so this will be new for me. Zucchini and beets I will sow directly into the ground.
This is the year I have committed to start saving all my own seed. In the past I've saved some and some I didn't, but I'm making a concerted effort this year to save all the seed I can.
Hubby absolutely loves persimmon tomatoes and if you've never tried them and appreciate a mild tomato this is the one for you. They are sort of the color of persimmons too which makes them look fantastic on your plate alongside reds, greens, yellows and purples, plus seem much less acidic. They are large tomatoes too which is nice for sandwich making!! It won't be long now and I'll be planting seed. I've got all kinds of heirloom seeds just waiting patiently to produce the most beautiful vegetables on earth. Oh, it's so exciting!!!
Last night after dinner I threw the pulled pork all together and by 10:00 p.m. last night it was ready. I put it in the frig and then today at noon I took it out, put the crockpot on low and it's ready to go!! There's enough pulled pork for a troop but it freezes well; so one of these days when I'm wondering what in the world am I having for lunch, it will come in handy once again.
