I wanted you to see a pic of the Beginner Sourdough Sandwich Loaf bread I made. I've made homemade bread and showed you pics of it on here before. The homemade bread I previously made is just flat out good. It's not my baking skills - it's the recipe and I swear by it so if I were to compare this bread to that, well, it just doesn't. It's a little heavier and denser but let me tell you - it's tasty as all get out. This bread will be great with soups. In fact I may make some bread bowls from it. It will also be good for making French Sourdough bread and making thick slices of toasted bread with olive oil and Italian Seasonings. It has great potential; plus, I think it will get even better the longer I keep the sourdough starter around. While this bread cannot replace my wonderful old recipe of Du Pain Blanc it's a "keeper"!!! I'll put the recipe on the Recipes page. I've already placed the starter dough on the page so let me know how yours turns out. I fed my starter, stirred it up really well, put it in a wide-mouth canning jar and put it in the frig and next Tuesday I'll get it out and let it sit out overnight and then Wednesday I'm going to make more bread. At least that's my plan!!
Did you all get any more snow last night? We got another inch or two. It was kind of shocking to wake up and see more white stuff. I suppose I just wasn't expecting it. Tonight though will be the big test for us all. The temperatures are going to be more than just cold. They will be frigid. It will be cold enough tonight that I will probably shut the coop door to the chickens so they can keep as warm as possible. It's supposed to get 10 or 11 degrees below 0 tonight. Folks, for our area, that pretty doggone cold!!! I'm going to put extra straw down in the girls' coop, give them fresh water and some extra scratch. Brrrr!!! Sure am glad I'm not a chicken. At least that's my plan!! As you can see in the pic, I put the bread in their wrappers and didn't realize they were still warm. NOT the thing to do. Never wrap your bread up until it is completely cooled. But - - I took the pic and then unwrapped them and let them cool more. The one in the back has oh 3 or 4 pieces missing!! LOL Hubby and I enjoyed the bread thoroughly!

AuthorMy name is Nina. Southern Indiana has been my home since 1952. I've been a legal secretary most of my adult life and for my leisure time I enjoy everything connected to the world of herbs and cooking is almost like a "fever". I am also quite opinionated but try not to push my opinions on others. My family is grown and I'm left with a wonderful hubby sharing life with me. I'd guess you'd say my passion is living that life to the fullest. Archives
