The temperature here was about 70 degrees and we'd been warned that bad weather was on the way. We had received our warning call about a tornado being sighted on the ground and headed for the basement. I turned on our radio and we listened to the local station which is located in Washington, Indiana. We could hear the guy saying that the lights were going off and on and that he didn't know how much longer they were going to be able to stay on the air and then . . . nothing!! The sky looked ominous above us; but it was not terribly windy and there was no exceptionally hard rain, but the dark clouds that were going over were definitely of the spooky variety.
This morning on my way to work I noticed that things looked a little different but I really didn't get it until I drove by my favorite farm market and it had been demolished. The tornado hit there first and crossed the highway dragging with it all sorts of debris and went over to the West side of town and tore up the western part of Washington pretty badly.
I immediately said a prayer for each and everyone of those people who were effected by the tornado and perhaps lives changed forever, and I also thanked God for the many blessings that he has allowed me to share on this earth. Nothing gives you crystal clear perspective quite as quickly as the realization that "it could have been you!!!"
After work today I went by the grocery store and picked up some more Thanksgiving items. About all I have left to buy now is milk, lettuce, cream, buttermilk, ice cream, bananas and a loaf of fresh bread for turkey sandwiches. Of course, I had no sooner walked in the door and hubby informed me I needed more Honey Nut Cheerios. Even if my granddaughters don't eat any cheerios when they get here, I have to have them just in case. They always know there are certain things that granny always has in her cabinets.
I had put a beef roast in the crockpot this morning and by the time I got home I was certainly glad I did. I was wiped out! We had roast beef sandwiches and pearsauce this evening. Probably not the most wholesome meal but good enough.
