As an update - the chickens are still laying and I'm going to have to freeze more eggs! Oh my, it's just wonderful!! I went out and sat with them yesterday in the run and 3 of them just had to sit in my lap. They are so spoiled! I've really enjoyed them though. It's not been difficult at all - but Winter is just around the corner and getting on my cold weather gear every morning may change how I feel about that. We'll see. I figure it can't be any worse than having to get up, get dressed up, put on heels, put on makeup, do hair, warm up vehicle and very carefully drive, tensed up, for 40 minutes through, rain, sleet and snow, huh?!!
I've got a huge bag of dried elderberries, courtesy of one of my twin brothers, sitting in my frig so today I'm making "The Viking's Elderberry Syrup Recipe". I've seen this recipe before but I'd never considered canning it up. It is alcohol free and would be excellent for children, after the age of at least a year. Honey is not a good food for children younger than a year. Before canning your syrup, for your own personal knowledge, read up on garlic, cooked and uncooked. Read about the changes heat makes to garlic and how you can get around those changes or at the very least minimize them. THEN - do your thing!!!
