I've been trying to study up on Curly Dock, Yellow Dock, and Broadleaf Dock. From what I can tell they are all in the same family and all edible. I'm not going to go into it right now because I feel I need a lot more study on dock but I've been on a quest for awhile now since I have literally no one that can take me by the hand, lead me out to the field and say, "There, that's dock". Oh how I wish there were someone around here who knew more about wild herbs and weeds. At this point, it's a very slow walk but I'm learning and the more I learn the dumber I feel. What I actually was most amazed about was that many cattlemen dig up or at least try to get rid of dock because it's poisonous to their cattle if they eat it. Funny thing - each year I pass this huge spot in our field that is loaded with what I thought - just might be dock. The horses eat everything out there but they won't touch these big, green-leaved plants. Duh!! They are poisonous to horses too!! Just goes to show how smart animals are and most animals have a tendency to know what's not good for them. In this case they were smarter than me!!!
Anyway, I've been doing a lot of study on herbs today since it was chilly outside. I took advantage of the housebound time and have really enjoyed myself!!
