I went out this afternoon, meandered around and picked up sticks, emptied my compost bucket and filled all my birdfeeders. I'd been holding back feeding the birds these last couple days because of all the starlings and grackles hanging around. I honestly wasn't too fearful of the good birds starving since all the snow was gone and there is plenty for them to forage from around here, but I want to make sure they have plenty of food available with all this ice and snow coming in.
While I was out I decided to walk around our lake 3 or 4 times. It was just too compelling. The birds were singing and the air just felt as though it was full of electricity. Then I walked up to the herb garden and grabbed a few dead sage leaves and crushed them in my hands and smelled the fragrance. I dug around under the leaves where the lemon balm grows and sure enough there were some green leaves at the very base so I covered them up really good but the lemon fragrance of some of the old stems still held their amazing scent. Nettles are green at the base as well. Oh my friends, the herbs are waiting-just waiting for the arrival of Spring!
Oh!! I had my first flock of robins come in yesterday too. I don't know if they are our Spring Robins or not but I'm pretending they are just to make myself feel better! TeeHee!!
Well, tomorrow is Sunday. Each and everyone of you have a terrific day and I'll talk to you again on Monday.
