On my daily walk last night I went out to the herb garden and checked on the figs. They are all still green and virtually on the cusp of ripening. Goodness, I hope we have a few more warm days. I've only gotten 2 figs so far and there are several on there. Also, more vine peaches are beginning to ripen and I'm looking forward to using them for chutney. We're down to the final and crucial days for the last of our garden fruits so we have to be vigilant! Persimmons are beginning to ripen fast and I'm looking forward to persimmon butter and freezing persimmon pulp for cookies and pudding. It's also time to collect black walnuts and work the soft shell off of them to let them dry. Walnuts, admittedly, are a pain but they are very expensive and when you have a tree or two on your property you feel almost ashamed going to the store to buy them. I try to get enough for a couple batches of fudge for Christmas but it is a tedious job shelling them.
I'm still concerned about my chia plants. They continue to grow but yet no flowers or seeds. Folks, I don't know what's up with them but they surely are tall!!
